Indie TTRPG of the Week

DOUBLE CROSS

DOUBLE CROSS

Genre: Shonen, Combat

Touchstones: Shonen anime, Superhero Shit

What is this game?: DOUBLE CROSS (all caps) is about being an OVERED powerful people infected by a RENEGADE virus, trying to fight against people with the same virus who have delved too deep and lost their mind, the game's tone is very shonen-ey, mixed with a hidden world aspect as the Renegade virus isn't common knowledge

How's the gameplay?: DOUBLE CROSS has you create your character by choosing what Variant of the power they have (which determines how varied your powers can be), and the way they manifest. You also choose your "Loises", named after Lois Lane, these are people who root you to your normal human life, the people who give you a reason to defend humanity. The game also has a rollable life path chart, so knock yourself out with that, life path enjoyers?

What's the setting (If any) like?: Double Cross is set in the modern day, with the primary difference being the existence of the Renegade viruses, a strain that gives anyone infected by it superhuman abilities (named Syndromes), allowing them to do things like manipulate flames, light, or gravity.

What's the tone?: Double Cross' tone is similar to an edgy Shonen or Superhero comic, something similar to Tokyo ghoul, characters are renegades fighting against even worse creatures

Session length: On the shorter side, most JTTRPGs are designed to be played in shorter bursts due to the play culture over there

Number of Players: 4-6 players

Malleability: You could probably reskin this with almost any superhero game if you want, technically!

Resources: Uhhh, not a lot! but I've been able to track down character sheets and the like

You should check out JTTRPGS! there's a lot of fun stuff to be found in games made in japan, as they'll often show much different mechanical concepts than western ones
