Indie TTRPG of the Week

Daisy Chainsaw

Daisy Chainsaw

They are brutal, without mercy, but you, sparkle princess, you will be worse, Rip and Tear until it is done

Genre: Magical girl Hyperviolence

Touchstones: River City Girls, Lollipop Chainsaw

What is this game?: Daisy Chainsaw is a game about Magical Girls who use the power of Hyperviolence to defeat their enemies

How's the gameplay?: Daisy Chainsaw is at its core a tactics game, characters choose their weapons at character creation, this is their "Class" equivalent, weapons can be things like Guns, Chainsaws, Daggers... a Hat? and whips, the game also features many combat spells, that characters can spec into, though since you learn spells equal to your CHARM stat, this usually comes at the cost of other things. Daisy Chainsaw's gameplay is very simplistic, using exploding D6 as a way to do most things in the game, this simplicity means the game can focus on being more tightly designed

What's the setting (If any) like?: Magical girls! the game never really gives you much of a setting, but you can fill in the blanks from theming and vibes

What's the tone?: The game doesn't really have a tone outside of "Violence", you could go full lollipop chainsaw in cartoony gratuitous violence, or you could go for a more serious deconstruction of magical girls using violence as a visual symbol for... something or other, the world's your oyster!

Session length: 2-4 hours

Number of Players: 4-6 players

Malleability: Theoretically if you could play a magical girl any setting would work?

Resources: The game sadly doesn't have too many resources, though a (slightly outdated) plaintext version of the book is available in case you wish to peruse it before buying

Something I haven't talked about before is that Lollipop Chainsaw is like one of my fave games of all time, I think that game rocks, and this is like exactly what im looking for in a game inspired by that
